fireworks at yukuhashi

today was a pretty lazy day. just cleaned house in the morning and then at night, we met up with james, another ALT from florida(??), to go to see the fireworks festival on the river, right down the street. i didn't know at the time, but it was the 50th anniversary of yukuhashi so it was a bigger production than usual. there were so many people there! they set up a big stage and had a whole bunch of local singers and dance teams. mostly jazz dancing. it was really cool! they wore all kinds of weird things like what looked like red flightsuits and silver sock-legging things (kathleen would've liked those!). they danced to a lot of american songs like britney and madonna's me against the music which made lisa and i feel like we wanted to join in and dance although neither of us can dance at all... well maybe lisa can, but she's hiding it :) they also danced to that "hey mama" song with all the swearing and everything. i guess they don't know so it doesn't bother them! it was just weird to hear kids dancing to such explicit lyrics though! we ate some karaage (fried chicken) and this other rolled up omelette thing. also had some of that shave ice stuff... it really isn't shave ice though... it is like ice flakes with a tablespoon of juice. half of it's always white. maybe we just haven't found a good one yet?
