earthday - imagawa river cleanup

on sunday, lisa and i joined a bunch of other JETs and some community people to do a litter pickup along imagawa river. at first i was skeptical because imagawa is a pretty clean river... what were we going to pick up? the first hour walking along the river was pretty uneventful. we busied ourselves with picking up cigarette buts and the occasional hashi wrapper. BUT as we got further down (katsu-do? katsu-don?! area) we started finding bigger things, most partiall submersed in the river which we had to pull out. the thing in this picture is a small electrical fan. at the same time, we pulled out a bike basket, and lisa found a mussel, "morris". we walked down the river for a good 2 hours or more and found more stuff like 2 bicycles (1 with barnacles all over it), an old radio tuner with crabs living in it, and 2 kitchen sinks! fun, fun, fun :) then we had a bbq after. it was fan!
