tanabata star festival

Tanabata, also known as the "star festival", is on 7/7. According to the legend, the daughter of an emperor (Vega) fell in love with a herdsman (Altair) but when her father found out, he banished them to opposite ends of the galaxy. The two stars, Altair and Vega, which are usually separated from each other by the milky way, are able to meet just once a year on this day.

A Tanabata custom in japan is to write your wish on a piece of paper, and hang that piece of paper on a special bamboo tree, in the hope that the wishes will come true.

this is the tanabata tree in yukuhashi train station. i read some of the wishes while i waited for my train. they said things like "i wish i could be a nurse" or "i hope i can get a boyfriend" or "i hope i can do well on my exam".
