fire drill

today we had a fire drill. this is not like fire drills at our school. for one thing, once the alarm goes off, the students are instructed to RUN. well, ok, they run in an orderly way but i always remember them telling us to walk. then, the firemen come (wearing these blue jumpsuits) and some students and teachers (no, not me) take turns putting out a fire, which they make with gasoline (?). it's funny because at first, it always seems like the extinguishers are making the fire bigger. and then it starts spreading to the ground. i think it took about 5 whole extinguishers to put out the blaze. then the fireman relights it and they put it out a few more times. after each attempt, everyone claps. it's great! they also practice sliding down this humongous wind-sock-looking thing from the 3rd floor to the ground. see pictures of that and more here or under "fire drill" to the right.
