makeup = make = weird experience

well, inspired by lisa's recent makeup purchase, and aided by her boldness to talk to the sales girl, i bought some japanese makeup today!

first of all, they call makeup, "make", because japanese love to shorten words (ie. air conditioner = "air con"and hamburger = "hamburg")... yeah, weird.

so i sit down and the make lady picks up this handheld device, similar to one of those hand held scanners at the bookstore or supermarket--only it is attached to a small video display. she puts the scanner thingie up to my cheek, and my cheek appears on the screen... magnified about 500 times or something!! let me tell you, skin at that magnification is not pretty. it's downright gross. you can see EVERY hair... it looks like a forest of black trees. so then lisa says "whoa, is that your moustache?" thanks lisa! for one thing, hey! and for several other reasons, hey!! sheesh. and remember, this is my cheek. i'm sure you all have it too, so please ponder that scary thought for a while. anyway, the picture of my gross cheek freezes on the screen and then another screen is generated anazlying the red and yellow and other tones in my skin. based on this, they know what color make to pick for you! is that part cool or what?

then get this-- she scans my neck (equally gross looking), and the analysis shows up on the screen. she looks a little concerned. why? she then asks me something like, do you want the make to match your neck or your face. WHAT?! so that means they're different colors? and from her expression, it looked like she was puzzled too. great, i'm a freak. well, thankfully lisa helped me decide if i want my head to look like part of my neck or a seperate body part... i don't remember what we decided, but i finally bought foundation, powder, and a case (which is really cute btw, i'll post a pic later) total cost? about $85. that's right. oh well, gotta splurge once in a while right? i could go a lifetime without seeing my skin that close up though! kowai.

Wow! 85 dollars on stuff to paint your face. I dunno if I can do that. Well I guess its just a girl thing. I think your haircut is nice. Its the perfect blend of western spring/summer air-iness and Japanese pop culture. I like it!
